Footnotes and Source Attributions

Rule

When it comes to incorporating footnotes, source attributions, or any form of notes relevant to an entire table, it's crucial to adhere to best practices that ensure both readability and accessibility. These types of annotations should not be embedded within the table markup itself. Instead, they should be encapsulated within an <aside> element, which is explicitly defined with a role attribute set to "note" and is assigned a class of "annotation" to clearly distinguish it from the main content. In instances where a table includes multiple notes or annotations, each should be individually contained within <div> tags to maintain clarity and organization, yet all housed under a singular <aside> element associated with the table. This methodological approach not only enhances the structure and interpretability of the information but also aligns with accessibility standards, ensuring that the content is navigable and understandable for all users.
