🧚 PXE 2024 FAQ
Table "For information only" warnings
e.g.
[For information only] X-axis table - NEEDS remediation [For information only].
These are a little different than a typical error or warning. They are telling you:
- The table category (e.g. x-axis, complex, etc.) and
- The remediation status, i.e. whether this table has been explicitly designated as "accessible" with a tracking class. That means, the new standards required by Benetech GCA, meeting WCAG 2.2 AA, have been applied, and you as the tagger are marking it as such. You must affirm that the table meets accessibility standards by adding the class "table-remediated" to each table marked NEEDS REMEDIATION. Then once you revalidate, the category will switch to REMEDIATION COMPLETE. You can proactively tag your tables with the "table-remediated" class. By doing this, you are affirming you are meeting the new standards.
Please note the handbook was authored for the 2023 remediation process, and some of its language reflects this. Please take this into account as you refer to the handbook for your purposes of tagging PXE content going forward. The handbook only lays out the basics of our internal effort. It does not exhaustively document how to create accessible tables. There are also many challenges we ran into while working with the content as authored. We don't control the original authoring or editing process, which happens to be the source of many accessibility issues.
We recommend you refer to WCAG 2.2 as necessary; there are many resources available, here's a checklist from Deque for e.g. WCAG 2.2 Checklist (opens in a new tab).
